When Do Cybex Car Seats Expire? (6 to 10 Years)

Every Cybex car seat has an expiration date, and the range across the US lineup is 6 to 10 years depending on the seat. Cybex prints the period of use on a label on the product and repeats it in the manual, so your seat carries its own answer. To confirm what that label means for your dates, enter the manufacture date into our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker. Here is the breakdown for the seats Cybex sells in the US.

    Cybex Expiration Rules

    • 6 years: Cybex infant seats, including the Aton G and the Cloud G Lux, counted from the date of manufacture
    • 10 years: the Sirona S convertible
    • 8 years: the older Sirona M convertible

Cybex explains the reason plainly: plastic ages. Years of vehicle heat and sun exposure slowly weaken the shell, and the expiration date is where the company stops standing behind it. When a Cybex seat reaches the end, the company recommends recycling it through a local community recycling program rather than passing it along.

Where Is the Date on a Cybex Seat?

Look for the sticker on the seat. On infant seats it sits on the bottom of the carrier. It shows the date of manufacture and the certified period of use for that model. The same period of use is stated in the instruction manual, so if the sticker is damaged, the manual settles it.

What If the Seat Has Been in a Crash?

Cybex advises replacing a seat that has been in an accident. Crash forces can leave hairline cracks in the plastic that you cannot see, and a cracked shell may not protect the way it should in a second crash. US manuals tell owners to stop using the seat after a crash and to contact Cybex or the retailer with the details. Your auto insurer is the usual route for covering the replacement.

Can You Fly With a Cybex Seat?

The infant seats can. Aton and Cloud models are approved for aircraft and install without the base. The US market Sirona S convertible is not certified for aircraft, which surprises some owners, so do not plan on harnessing it on a plane. Whatever Cybex you own, read the certification statement on your own seat’s label before you travel.

    Cybex Expiration FAQs

How long are Cybex car seats good for?

Six to 10 years depending on the model. The Aton G and Cloud G Lux infant seats are certified for 6 years from the date of manufacture, the Sirona S for 10 years, and the older Sirona M for 8. Your seat’s period of use is printed on its label and in the manual.

Where do I find the expiration date on a Cybex seat?

On the sticker on the seat, which is on the bottom of the carrier for infant models. It shows the date of manufacture and the certified period of use. If the expiration date itself is not printed, add the period of use to the manufacture date.

Are Cybex car seats FAA approved?

The infant seats are. Aton and Cloud models fly without their base. The US Sirona S is not aircraft certified. Always confirm with the label on your specific seat.

    Check Your Cybex Seat

Find the sticker, note the manufacture date, and verify the result in our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker. Our overview of car seat expiration covers the other brands too. One practical tip before you buy or accept a used Cybex: the Aton G has been subject to a US recall notice, so run the serial number through a recall lookup. Cybex publishes its US safety guidance on its official site at cybex-online.com.
