Baby Trend sets lifespans model by model, and on a couple of its seats the number even changes depending on how the seat is being used. Most of its infant seats expire 6 years from the date of production. Its newer infant seats get 7. And its combination seats carry one lifespan for harness mode and a longer one for booster mode. Find your model below, and if you want the date worked out for you, our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker does it from the production date on your seat’s label.
Baby Trend Expiration Rules
- 6 years: standard Baby Trend infant car seats and their bases
- 7 years: the EZ-Lift and Secure-Lift infant seats
- 7 years: the Trooper 3 in 1 convertible
- 7 years in harness mode, 9 years in booster mode: the Cover Me 4 in 1
- 6 years with the harness or as a high back booster, 10 years as a backless booster: the Hybrid line
That split on the Cover Me and the Hybrid is the detail owners miss. When you convert the seat to its next mode, check the expiration again for the mode you are switching into. A Cover Me whose harness life ended at 7 years is still a legal booster until year 9. The shorter number always applies to the mode you are actually using. Not sure which lifespan fits your seat? Baby Trend customer service at 1-800-328-7363 can confirm it from the model and production date.
Where Is the Date on a Baby Trend Seat?
Baby Trend prints the date of production on a label on the underside of the car seat. Infant seats carry it on the underside of the base too. The same label holds the model number, which is how you match the seat to the right lifespan in the list above.
What If the Seat Has Been in a Crash?
Replace it after an accident of any kind, no matter how minor. Baby Trend’s manuals say to stop using the seat immediately, because a collision can cause damage you cannot see, and Baby Trend does not apply the NHTSA minor crash exception. Ask your auto insurer to cover the replacement.
Can You Fly With a Baby Trend Seat?
Baby Trend’s infant seats and harnessed seats carry the standard certification for use in motor vehicles and aircraft. Fly the infant carrier without its base. The Trooper and the Hybrid are certified in harness mode. Booster modes and backless boosters are not certified for aircraft. Confirm the certification statement on your seat’s label before you travel.
Baby Trend Expiration FAQs
How long are Baby Trend car seats good for?
Most Baby Trend infant seats and bases last 6 years from the date of production, and the EZ-Lift and Secure-Lift last 7. The Trooper is a 7 year seat. Combination seats vary by mode: the Cover Me runs 7 years harnessed and 9 as a booster, and the Hybrid backless booster lasts 10.
Where is the expiration date on a Baby Trend seat?
Baby Trend prints the date of production on a label on the underside of the seat and, for infant seats, on the underside of the base. Add your model’s lifespan to that date. Baby Trend’s own FAQ lists the lifespans model by model if you need to cross check.
Does Baby Trend allow reuse after a minor crash?
No. The policy is to stop using the seat and replace it after an accident of any kind, however minor, because crash damage is often invisible.
