When Do WAYB Car Seats Expire? (7 Years)

WAYB makes exactly one car seat, the Pico, and it keeps exactly one expiration rule: 7 years from the date of manufacture. The manual states it as a warning, do not use the seat after seven years from the date on its label, and WAYB’s safety page repeats the same figure. No model chart, no exceptions. Find the manufacture date on the sticker at the base of the seat, or enter it into our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker to get the end date worked out for you.

    WAYB Expiration Rules

    • 7 years from manufacture: the Pico, every version
    • 7 years from the original manufacture date: re-certified Picos sold by WAYB

Two versions of the Pico are out there, split by manufacture date, and they differ in fit rather than lifespan. Picos made on or after June 30, 2025 fit children from 26.5 to 50 pounds and 33.5 to 45 inches. Earlier Picos fit 22 to 50 pounds and 30 to 45 inches. Both run on the same 7 year clock, and a re-certified Pico does not restart it. One more number to keep straight: WAYB’s warranty runs 3 years. That is defect coverage, and it is well short of the 7 year service life.

Where Is the Date on a WAYB Pico?

The date of manufacture is on the sticker at the base of the seat. The manual shows the label on the bottom of the car seat, with the model number and manufacture date circled in its illustration. The aircraft certification label is on the bottom of the seat as well, printed in red text, so check both while you are down there.

What If the Seat Has Been in a Crash?

WAYB uses the NHTSA criteria rather than a replace after everything rule. Continued use after a minor crash is allowed only when all five conditions hold: the vehicle drove away, the door nearest the seat was undamaged, nobody was injured, no airbags deployed, and the seat shows no visible damage. If any condition fails, or you simply cannot tell whether the seat was damaged, replace it. WAYB asks owners to email its team after a crash, and your insurer is the route for replacement coverage.

Can You Fly With a WAYB Pico?

Flying is what the Pico was built for. It is certified for aircraft, folds down small, and weighs very little, which is why it shows up in every travel seat conversation next to seats like the Cosco Scenera NEXT. Use it on a forward facing aircraft seat and route the lap belt through both belt guides. The certification label sits on the bottom of the seat in red text, which is handy when a flight attendant asks to see it. The tradeoff: the Pico is forward facing only and starts at age 2.

    WAYB Expiration FAQs

When does the WAYB Pico expire?

Seven years after its date of manufacture. WAYB states it in the manual and on its safety standards page, and re-certified Picos run on the same clock from the original manufacture date.

Where is the date of manufacture on a WAYB Pico?

On the sticker at the base of the seat, printed on the label on the bottom alongside the model number. The red aircraft certification label lives on the bottom too.

Is the WAYB Pico FAA approved?

Yes. The Pico is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft, and the label is printed in red on the bottom of the seat so you can show it to the cabin crew.

    Check Your WAYB Seat

Read the date off the bottom label and confirm it in our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker. Our guide on car seat expiration covers the travel seat alternatives too. WAYB’s official site at wayb.com publishes the Pico’s useful life in its FAQ, straight from the source.
