When Do Nuna Car Seats Expire? (7 to 10 Years)

Nuna keeps its rules refreshingly simple. The PIPA infant seats expire after 7 years. Everything else in the lineup gets 10. And Nuna stamps the do not use after date right onto the seat, so once you find the label, there is no math and no guessing. If you want a second opinion on the date you found, enter the manufacture date from the label into our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker and compare the two answers.

    Nuna Expiration Rules

    • 7 years: the PIPA series infant seats, including the PIPA, PIPA rx, PIPA aire, PIPA lite, and PIPA urbn
    • 10 years: the RAVA and RAVA next convertibles, the EXEC and EXEC next all in ones, the REVV and REVV maxx rotating seats, the LUMN harness to booster, and the AACE booster

That shorter PIPA window catches families off guard. A PIPA passed down through two or three babies can age out while it still looks nearly new, because the 7 years run from the date of manufacture and not from the day your first child rode in it. Check the stamped date before you reuse one, every time.

Where Is the Date on a Nuna Seat?

Flip the seat over. The model number, the date of manufacture, and the stamped do not use after date are on a label on the bottom of the seat. Seats sold with a base carry the same information on the underside of the base. Nuna also prints these details on the registration card in the box, which is one more reason to keep it.

What If the Seat Has Been in a Crash?

Nuna’s manuals use the NHTSA rule. A seat that has been in a moderate or severe crash must never be used again. After a minor crash, it may stay in use only if all five federal conditions hold: the vehicle drove away, the door nearest the seat was undamaged, nobody was injured, no airbags deployed, and the seat shows no visible damage. Nuna also tells owners to stop using a seat with frayed straps or any crash damage, and its team takes questions at 1-855-NUNA-USA.

Can You Fly With a Nuna Seat?

The PIPA series is certified to meet FAA requirements, and PIPA carriers install on the plane without the base. The EXEC, EXEC next, and LUMN are certified in harness mode only. Two Nuna seats are not certified for aircraft at all: the REVV and REVV maxx, because aircraft belts cannot accommodate the install, and the AACE booster, because boosters need a lap and shoulder belt. Check the certification statement on your seat’s label before you pack.

    Nuna Expiration FAQs

How long are Nuna car seats good for?

PIPA infant seats are good for 7 years from the date of manufacture. Everything larger, including the RAVA, EXEC, REVV, LUMN, and AACE, is good for 10 years. Nuna stamps a do not use after date on the bottom of the seat, so read the exact date instead of estimating.

When does the Nuna PIPA expire?

Every PIPA model expires 7 years after its date of manufacture. The stamped date is on the label on the bottom of the carrier and on the base. After that date, Nuna says the seat should not be used.

Are Nuna car seats FAA approved?

The PIPA series is, and the carriers install on aircraft without the base. The EXEC is certified in harness mode only. The REVV, REVV maxx, and AACE are not certified for aircraft use.

    Check Your Nuna Seat

Read the stamped date on the bottom of your seat, then run the manufacture date through our Baby Car Seat Expiration Checker to see the same answer from a second source. Our guide on why car seats expire has the background. And for model specific questions, Nuna’s official site at nunababy.com is where the manuals live.
